Plumas-Sierra Rural Electric Cooperative offers a two-part leasing program (one for ground source/geothermal heat pumps, the other for solar systems). The present program began in 1998 and is a reworking of an earlier one. Plumas-Sierra includes with the lease a rebate option on geothermal heat pumps. It was created in the early 1990s and expanded when the leasing program was restructured in 1998. Customers are given a choice between an interest-free loan, with the size of the loan depending on the size of the heat pump, and a satellite dish, offered through the utility’s direct-TV company. These rebates are promoted to the public along with the leasing program. So far, between 125 and 150 rebates have been given out to the cooperative’s customers.
