The State of Illinois received ARRA funding in order to incentivize the replacement of older appliances through the purchase of Energy Star appliances via Point of Sale rebates to consumers. This program, originally deactivated in the Spring of 2010, will temporarily reactivate on Friday, September 24, 2010 between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. (CST) or when the funds are depleted. Rebates of 15%, up to $250, will be provided by the retailer during cash register checkout on a one rebate per appliance category basis. Please review the Program Fact Sheet for more information and procedures associated with the Illinois home Energy Star appliance rebates. Note: Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is providing a total of $300 million to U.S. states, U.S. territories and the District of Columbia to establish rebate programs for new energy-efficient appliances that replace existing appliances in homes. Each state and territory has designed its own program. Rebates will be available until the state program's funding is exhausted. Be sure to confirm that rebate funds are still available in your state before making purchasing decisions. Phase III of the Illinois home appliance rebate program originally closed on April 16 and included residential rebates for Energy Star white goods (refrigerators, clothes washers, dishwashers and freezers) offered by participating retailers. Consumers must complete a self certification form attesting that the appliance purchased is for replacement purposes. Only residential customers qualify. Illinois sales taxes will be applied to the pre-rebate sale price. For questions see the program website or call 1-877-782-7005.
