Home Energy Rebate Option (HERO) - New Homes Program

May 08, 2012

Summary

The Home Energy Rebate Option (HERO) New Homes Program is offered by the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources for Louisiana residents or licensed businesses in Louisiana. Homes that achieve a Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rating of 70 or more qualify for a $2,000 rebate. Homes that achieve a 50% energy savings for heating and cooling compared to IECC 2004 qualify for a $3,000 rebate. For the $3,000 rebate, 20% of the energy savings must be achieved in improvements to the building envelope. There is no restriction on the number of eligible units.

In order to qualify for the rebate, a HERO-Certified Energy Rate must review the building plans and make recommendations on energy performance goals. After the resident and the rater have agreed on a building plan, the resident must complete the project and documentation within six months. Rebates will be given after all required documentation has been submitted. Guidelines and forms can be found on the program web site.
