Offshore Wind Energy Target

Summary

Rhode Island enacted legislation in 2022 (S.B. 2583) requiring Rhode Island Energy to issue a request for proposals (RFP) for between 600 megawatts (MW) and 1,000 MW of newly-developed offshore wind capacity no later than October 15, 2022. It is to develop the RFP in consultation with the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources and the Rhode Island Division of Public Utilities and Carriers. The statutes provide additional details regarding the nature of the RFP and resulting contracts.
