Avista Utilities - LEED (NC or EB) Certification Incentive Program

October 23, 2009

Summary

The LEED (Leadership in Energy Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System® is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. Members of the Green Building Council, representing all segments of the building industry, developed LEED and continue to contribute to its evolution. LEED provides a complete framework for assessing building performance and meeting sustainability goals. Based on well-founded scientific standards, LEED emphasizes state of the art strategies for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. Avista Utilities' customers that achieve a minimum of 4 points (10 points neccessary after January 1, 2010) for optimized energy performance and comply with all LEED guidelines are eligible for Avista's LEED (NC or EB) Certification Incentive Program. This programs offers an incentive of $1.25 per square foot of conditioned space for new construction and $0.50 per square foot of conditioned space for existing buildings ( $0.25 per square foot as of January 1, 2010). School facilities meeting the Washington Sustainable Schools Protocol (achieving at least 6 points from the energy category) may also qualify for the incentive.
