The Gexa SavEV 24 plan is a unique electricity plan designed with electric vehicle (EV) owners in mind, especially those who can charge their EVs at home during off-peak hours. This plan is structured to offer significant savings for those who can align their EV charging habits with the defined "Nighttime EV Charging Hours."

How the Plan Works:

The Gexa SavEV 24 plan provides a fixed-rate electricity contract over 24 months, which means your energy charge won't change during this period, offering some protection against price fluctuations in the energy market. The plan's main feature is its focus on incentivizing EV charging during specific hours.

Nighttime EV Charging Hours:This is the key element of the plan. If you charge your EV between 11:00 PM and 4:59 AM, Monday through Sunday, including holidays, you benefit from the "Nighttime EV Charging Credit." Essentially, this credit negates the energy charge for any charging done during these hours, effectively giving you free electricity for charging your EV at night.

Energy and Delivery Charges:

  • Energy Charge: The standard energy charge is 14.4¢ per kWh.
  • Delivery Charges: You’ll also pay TDU (Transmission and Distribution Utility) delivery charges, which are a fixed $4.23 per billing cycle plus 4.6384¢ per kWh consumed, regardless of when the energy is used. These charges are passed directly from the utility without any markup by Gexa.

Average Costs:While the average price per kWh varies depending on your total monthly usage and how much of your EV charging you can schedule during the nighttime hours, the plan's structure rewards those who can maximize nighttime charging. For example, at 1,000 kWh of usage, which includes the assumption of 300 kWh of EV charging (90% during nighttime), the average price is 15.6¢ per kWh. However, if your charging patterns differ, your costs may vary.

Things to Keep in Mind:

  • Telematics Requirement: To get the Nighttime EV Charging Credit, you need to connect your EV to Gexa’s telematics platform. Without this connection, you won’t receive the credit, which could significantly impact your savings.
  • Early Termination Fee: If you decide to cancel the plan before the 24 months are up, you’ll face a $295 early termination fee unless you’re moving and provide proof.
  • Price Adjustments: Although the energy charge is fixed, your total bill could change due to adjustments in TDU charges or other regulatory fees.

Ideal for Nighttime Chargers:

This plan is best suited for EV owners who can charge their vehicles at home during the designated nighttime hours. If you fit this profile, the Gexa SavEV 24 plan offers a straightforward way to potentially lower your electricity costs while benefiting from a 100% renewable energy supply. However, if your schedule doesn't allow for nighttime charging, or if you can’t connect to Gexa’s telematics, you might want to explore other options.
