OhmConnect launched in 2013 with a unique approach to incentivizing users in California to reduce their energy usage. Users sign up for their free app that connects to their utility account. When the grid is under stress the app alerts its users to reduce their energy usage. If the user reduces their usage they earn money. Typically in the range of a few dollars a month.
More recently OhmConnect launched in Texas as a retail energy provider. But, they still offer energy savings rewards to their users in Texas that help lower their energy bills.

Yes, if you connect your smart thermostat to OhmConnect the app will turn your thermostat up or down to help save energy.
The amount of rewards you earn will be based on how much electricity you save. So if you have a larger home with higher energy usage you will likely be able to earn more rewards than someone with a small 1-bedroom apartment. In either case, the rewards are typically in the range of a few dollars per month at most.
